I'm curious - does someone have exclusive rights to the image or otherwise of a production car simply because they currently own it? If the car was at a show and I took photos of it I wouldn't have to pay the current owner for the images. If CC made a model of "A Phase IV" (rather than THE Phase IV) as would have come down the line if production had continued, then they could make models of them in any colour likely to have been used, INCLUDING Calypso Green. So the model would be of a generic XA GT-HO road car. I would buy a Wild Violet 1:18 even if it never got made for real, if the model had all the proper bits for a road car.

Alternatively CC could come up with a royalty deal with the owner if they legally have to.

And I won't go to the trouble of removing the decals from the Bowden XA, no matter how dubious they are - I'd prefer a plain red HO from CC.......

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Bowdens never claimed the signwriting on their car was genuine, just a guess at what it would have been ?

....or if there was any doubt about the car then it serves to reinforce their claim it is the Moffat car! Why would you guess how the car might have been signwritten? It could have been anything.

Sorry been without computer for week broke the screen on lap top, Thank you to V8SUPERMAN for posting pics , sorry poor quality,Yes David Bowden has been trying to hide the truth about which car his Phase4 was built for, It did leave FSVlot6 set up for rallying , as Bruce Hodgson told me it looked like his rally Phase 4 . And even David Bowden in 1987 Super Ford mag page 32 ..the final finest phase , said this ,I got the car from Keith Goodall. FORD had supplied the car to him with a rally suspension under it because he was supposed to rally the car. As Bruce told me both XA-2 & XA-3 HAD TWIN exhaust street systems & set up rally suspension. So no panhard rod was able to be fitted, as he said it didnt need it.Also have a search in Phase 4 web Four on the floor Bowdens site . Great B&W pic showing Paul Carthews Phase 4 with that mud marking on bottom of rear guard. Also another interesting pic of Howard Marsden pointing to winged sump on bench with reporter. Have a look at 351 engine on stand in front , check out the size of sump wings.. huge must be at least another 4 to 6 litres . The fellows must have known they had oil pressure problems with extra cornering loads the new XAs would be experiencing in racing. good to be back on forum. CHEERS PK.

When AMC magazine ran the article on the Bowden car there was a letter from Paul Carthew in the following issue that got short shrift from Bowden, who came up with lots of "evidence" that HIS was the Moffat car. I did think at the time that it was possible his aggressive argument might be simply to steamroller any doubters, together with the addition of the Moffat decals to clinch it. After all, if his car says "Moffat" on it and Mr Carthew's doesn't, who are the masses gonna believe? Your information is certainly interesting, and it wouldn't be the first time that a car's identity has been blurred by interested parties.

But back to the road car - could CC model hypothetical road cars as MIGHT have been built if it hadn't been canned, and would people buy them? That's if the real thing can't be modelled for whatever legal/financial/privacy reasons.

The XA Falcon GT sedan and GT-HO (Phase IV) were discussed years ago at Biante with a view to making road and race car models, but the program was set aside after CC anounced their forthcoming release of RPO83 road cars and the Bowden Collection GT-HO.

So long as Ford's licensing department agrees, then it's quite reasonable to assume that various takes on the XA Falcon GT-HO could be replicated. As far as I am aware, the XA Falcon GT-HO was to be made available to option as you might do a standard XA Falcon GT, but for the mandatory specific 'HO' components (eg Globe Bathurst road wheels only, manual transmission only, etc) and the inavailability of integrated air-conditioning or power steering with the GT-HO. This explains to some extent how some luxury options were included in the pilot Calypso Green car, such as the sunroof and power windows.

That's what I was thinking - models of XA GT-HO road cars in various 1970s colours and whatever interior trim options. Although at the speed CC gets things out I'll be an old man by the time anything transpires. Maybe fewer V8 Supercars might mean more old Falcons, Toranas and Commodores......

Yes, you're right - a fault of my memory!

Not a lot of comment about the desirability or otherwise of a Phase IV model - maybe that's why we've only had the Bowden car with its unfortunate decals...

I think if you do differant colours of Phase4 its like Bowden putting Moffat decals on his car and claiming its correct, I wonder if super roo logo would have made it on to Phase 4 ? as it was on all earlier HOs ? If only Howard Marsden hadnt invited Evan Green to FSV Lot6 to give him story on Phase 4 . Maybe we wouldnt have had Super car scare , and 200 Phase 4s would be out in real life.. Cheers PK.
