PHASE 1V
Hope to see a model of the Green Phase 4 in near future ?How about a model of Paul Carthews Phase 4 since CC done one of Bowdens. Im in process of converting one from Bowdens model to look like Pauls car. Actually doing 2 of them , one for me and one for Paul. As Im working on 1:18 th scale diorama of FSV Lot 6 workshop(have look in latest Street Fords mag) I thought Id do a model of all the 3 Race Phase 4 XAs and as owned by the differant owners. Which lead me to do alot of research into these cars. This is how I identyfy the cars .. XA-1 now owned by Paul Carthew..XA-2 now owned by Bowden Family..XA-3 was first car completed owned & rallied by Bruce Hoddo was crashed by last owner. The CC booklet that came with XA Phase 1V Model got the facts wrong. XA-3 Hoddos car was only car of the 3 to have race signage applied at FSV Lot6 workshop for rallying. Fact..No car had Allan Moffat signage onit from Lot 6, this was done by certain owner.Just want to set the record straight once in for all. If you think the members XA PHASE 1V was something special well I got my certificate signed by all the fellows who worked on the real cars at FSV Lot 6 . Sadly 2 had passed away so their wives signed on there behalf. Also Al Turner signed my Super Falcon certificate as the icing on the cake.As Im new to computers when i learn how to attach photos if any one is interested ? will show pics of how the 2 XA Phase 4 race cars might have looked at Bathurst 1972 . Also Bruces rally car . CHEERS PK.

Re: PHASE 1V
Coincidentally, STREET FORDS magazine issue #69 is scheduled for release today (23/06/10), and will contain the third instalment in the story of the restoration of the Calypso Green XA Falcon GT-HO.
As to the three Brambles Red race cars, PKDIORAMA has contradicted the evidence put forward in previous magazine stories. Referring to them as XA-1, XA-2, and XA-3 can be confusing ... David Bowden himself has said his car is sometimes referred to as XA-1 and as XA-3. Regardless, his car (chassis # JG33MC76429K) was the first of the red GTs to arrive at FSV in May 1972 and the other two "sister" cars were delivered to FSV the following month. It has generally been accepted that the Bowden car got a head-start in development and was the first and only car to have been circuit tested, by FSV workshop supervisor John Wynne, at Calder Park. Two photos published of John Wynne driving this car indicate that the only body decoration to speak of consisted of headlight and driving light glass being covered over and a similarly dark band applied across the top of the windscreen. Bowden's car is also said to be the only one of the three to feature an FSV-installed rear suspension panhard rod.
Whatever the truth, it seems that Bruce Hodgson's car (chassis # JG33MC78488K) remained with FSV which then carried out the preparation work for competition in the 1973 Australian Rally Championship. Bruce inherited the car and a heap of parts at the end of 1973 when Ford pulled the pin on it's competition department in Australia - similarly, Allan Moffat and Fred Gibson inherited the remaining two of three XA GT hardtops that FSV ran in the 1973 touring car championship and endurance series.
Incidentally, Ford's manufacturing records for the XA Falcon indicate that only eight GT sedans and three GT hardtops were manufactured in the Brambles Red paint colour. Of those eight sedans, three were produced for FSV to be converted to HO (Phase IV) specification.

Re: PHASE 1V
Graeme you have fallen for the same old lie been spun to confuse people into believing what they want you to believe not the eviedence thats in black & white if you bothered to look ..I wont go into all the detail , but here are some facts.. I call the cars by what boxes and numbers they were on them. The parts boxes to collect unwanted parts to be sent back to factory stayed with same car ie. XA-3 box stayed with XA-3 car . fact . not moved to other cars . This is a trick to confuse people. The photo in AMC issue 5 article on Phase 4 race cars showing 3 cars ,take a close look at car with No 3 on rear quarter.Look down behind rear wheel on black trim see mud splatter, ill come back to this latter, take look at least developed third car same spot. MUD marking as well, middle car does not have this. Do you have copy of 1972 Wheels mag PHASE 4 GTHO WORLDS FASTEST FOUR DOOR, Page 11 August issue. See car on axle stands with 12 slotters on see mud markings ? Exact match to the least developed car in AMC mag .exact. In this article only 2 cars are in FSV Lot6, This photo was taken last week of June 25th or 26th . The photo in AMC mag was taken shortly after 2 XA GTs arrived at FSV Lot6 Monday 12th of June . And joined the other XA GT that had arrived at Lot6 on Wednesday 10th May. Next do you have copy of SPORTS CAR WORLD .HOW THEY BUILT THE HO. Take a look at the page where the mechanic ( PETE JEFFERIES) Is working in XA-2 see the Graviner fire extinguisher and look at the remote mirror lever on right drivers door. Only one car had these items .Yes David Bowdens car.. FACT. There are other items i can point out to you if your willing to listen ? Im to slow at typing so your welcome to phone me on 0357217786 .

I'll dig out what references I have including the Super Ford magazine coverage from 1987 and will then reply.
As to the driver's door remote mirror, I always understood this to be a standard feature of all XA Falcon GTs ... refer to the following website link to early XA brochure :

Re: PHASE 1V
No the remote lever on drivers side mirror was not fitted to all XA-GTs You will find all important pics in 1972 August issue Wheels & SPORTS CAR WORLD September. I can photo copy and post to you if you havent got them. Hope to show some photos of some of my latest workshop dioramas, seems Diecast Mag not interested anymore.Street Fords latest issue has couple of pics of my mock up of FSV workshop IM working on. Give me some time to learn computer.PK.

I have those Wheels and SCW magazines tucked away, but I'll try to dig them out this weekend.
Looking at the Super Ford Winter 1987 magazine and AMC issue #5, I have noted the muddied sills on XA-1 (still on its road wheels) and XA-3 (elevated on axle stands).
Have you also noticed that XA-3 has a left side passenger door mirror, which does not appear to be fitted to XA-2 ?
Of the two surviving Brambles Red cars, it is the former McLeod Ford car that consistently featured a left side mirror. This car was track tested by Fred Gibson at Oran Park in 1977 (for RCN magazine), and by that time the car had also been fitted with front and rear bumper over-riders. All of these items were still present at the time of the Super Ford magazine story in 1987.
Another interesting photo in Super Ford magazine shows XA-3 remaining in its spot on the FSV workshop floor (still with its bonnet tilted right back), but with XA-2 and XA-1 having been replaced by two XY GT-HOs, respectively Fred Gibson's marked race car and the other appearing to be a fresh unmarked car. The suggestion here is that the two XAs had been removed following Ford's decision to cancel manufacture of the XA GT-HO road cars.
Re: PHASE 1V
Hi Graeme , Yes you are correct both XA-1 & XA-3 had twin mirrors. Pauls car always has twin mirrors in all pics of it. I was lucky to get colour pic of Hoddos car at its first rally from one of FSV Lot6 mechanics. And it clearly has twin mirrors, but at some rallies latter on it was removed . That pic in Super Ford , that isnt XA-3 next to Fred Gibsons XY Phase 3 being prepared for Adelaide August 27 race meet. Its XA-1 . XA-3 was long completed, it was first of the 3 to be completed & track tested. XA-1 took over its position as seen in Wheels & SCW mags. The 3 cars had quick release pins so bonnet could be put in up right position .I have done alot of research on FSV Lot6 , have floor plan etc. When you look at Wheels & SCW you will see that XA-1 with mud markings is in fact the least developed car . Fact . not defacto No 3 Cheers PK.
Re: PHASE 1V
Well seems i got my facts right on the 3 XA GT HO Phase 4 race cars ? Pity a certain Magazine Editor from a well known car mag whos to scared to print the truth, and doesnt reply to readers when he knows he cant win.. Cheers PK.
Re: PHASE 1V
I would buy the stunning green road car and Paul Carthew's car if modelled! I already have the Bowden car with its dubious decals. Actually I should just get rid of the decals and I'd have Paul's car!
Great article in Street Fords - the finished car looks gorgeous.
Anyone else want the green XA GT-HO modelled? CC is the company to do it, by a long chalk.

Re: PHASE 1V
I think CC & Biante already contacted Roy editor of Street Fords to do a model of Green Phase 4.No the Dentist wont let them come to take photos of it . That wont stop CC as they already have 4 door XA . As long as they dont put that drain bolt on bottom of 36 Gal tank like on David Bowdens Phase4 model, thats wrong . Yes you can turn your Bowden model into Paul Carthews Phase 4. Scrape that drain bolt of bottom of tank .Paint all of the bottom tank silver or aluiminum. add left side mirror, take remote drivers sidemirror lever off, and add RPO Street Exhaust system, etc. The hardest part is rubbing decals off,the one on bonnet the most difficult. Roy wanted me to do 2 Green cars for him but spray painting is not something i do .Ill stick to building workshop dioramas. Damn wish i could be better on computers. Would like to show some of my finished work, ive tryed but cant get photos into forum.Have Jim Beam DJ Workshop finished, Peter Brocks Austin in old shed, Pete Geoghegans Super Falcon in Straitfield workshop etc. Ill work it out one day . Cheers PK.
